406. Master of Bioprocess Engineering Degree

(En. 11.04.19)

The Degree of Master of Bioprocess Engineering (MBE) shall be granted under the following conditions. The candidate must have:

  1. Completed requirements for the Bachelor’s degree in one of the Colleges or Schools of the University of California or at another college or university of approved standing.
  2. Completed the program of graduate study, which must include at least 3 units at the graduate level of professionally-oriented coursework specific to the discipline of bioprocess engineering and completion of a final capstone project prepared under the conditions as stated by the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Subject to approval of the Graduate Council, the program of study is determined and administered by the Faculty of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.
  3. Completed at least two semesters of graduate study in residence at the University of California:

    • at least 24 units of approved upper division and graduate courses pertinent to the field of specialization;
    • at least 6 units of the 24 must be in courses oriented toward biochemical engineering and biomolecular engineering;
    • at least 12 units of the 24 must be graduate courses in the discipline of bioprocess engineering;
    • and an additional 3 units of the 24 must be breadth courses properly supportive of the program of study.
  4. Maintained an average grade of B or higher in all course work undertaken as a graduate student at the University of California.
