General Information
Meetings take place on Fridays. Petitions and course proposals must be received by the Friday before the monthly meeting.
Course Proposals – New course proposals must be submitted in the Course Management System (CMS) to the Academic Senate by the Friday before the AMCULT meeting. Within the CMS proposal be sure to attach the required cover letter and course syllabus. Instructor changes and changes to syllabi for courses already approved for the AC breadth requirement do not need to be submitted in CMS. Instead, proposals may be submitted to the Academic Senate via email to AMCULT Senate Analyst Rachel Marias Dezendorf. Frequently, instructors will work with the American Cultures Center to develop or refine a syllabus. In this case the AC Center may submit the proposal on behalf of the instructor to the Senate. Student Petitions – Students seeking to substitute a non-AC course to fulfill their AC breadth requirement may do so by petitioning the Subcommittee. Along with the petition form, students must also submit a cover letter describing how the course meets the requirement and a copy of the course syllabus from the semester the student completed the course. Submission Deadlines (Effective Fall 2022) – American Cultures Proposals (New Courses and Instructor Changes) must be submitted by the Friday prior to the Subcommittee meeting in November for the Spring Semester, March for Summer Sessions, and April for the Fall Semester.
