2.1.6 Timing for Course Approvals

(last updated 01/09/19)

In general, course proposals submitted in the Course Management System (CMS) at least one week before a COCI meeting will be reviewed at the next meeting. All modification proposals must be submitted roughly two months before the end of the semester preceding the effective term. In practice, this means, all course modifications for Fall must be submitted by the preceding July 1, for Spring by the preceding November 1, and for Summer by the preceding April 1. New course proposals must be submitted roughly one month before the end of the semester preceding the effective term. In practice, this means, all new proposals for Fall must be submitted by the preceding July, for Spring by the preceding December 1, and for Summer by the preceding May 1. Note that deadlines for Fall are the same for modifications and new proposals as COCI has limited meeting capacity over the summer. During high volume periods (e.g., Schedule of Classes deadlines, enrollment windows), COCI strongly recommends submission of course proposals well in advance of these timelines. Refer to the current year’s schedule located on the COCI website for exact calendar deadlines.

The Committee will not consider a request for approval of a new course or change to an existing course after the start of the semester in which the course is being offered, barring exceptional circumstances.
